Emergency works at the Beetham Wastewater Treatment Plant will result in higher-than-normal flows in the sewer collection system, leading to the possibility of sewerage overflowing in manholes in Lower Port of Spain and the Beetham Gardens, particularly if there is heavy rainfall.

The Water and Sewage Authority, WASA, says it is working to have the works completed by 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

“The Authority’s teams are on standby to respond in such cases by pumping down
these manholes and sanitizing the affected areas,” WASA said in a statement on Tuesday night.
