WASA Says Thanks As Customers Make Effort To Settle Arrears

Flashback: WASA conducts disconnection for non paying customers in early June

The Water and Sewerage Authority says it is pleased to see customers paying their water bills after threats of disconnection for mounting arrears.

WASA says its main aim is to be able to fund its core operations of providing water and wastewater services throughout the country.

“The Authority is also thankful to those customers who continue to meet their commitments to pay their rates,” WASA said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Consistent with providing as many options as possible for customers to make payment within the constraints posed by the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Authority reopened its Customer Service Centre at its Trincity Regional Complex off the Golden Grove Road, on 2021 June 28 to accept payments from customers,” it added.

A disconnection drive was launched by WASA in early June, as the Authority revealed some 45% of its 400,000 customers were behind on payments.

The campaign was eventually halted after criticism that the policy was insensitive given the financial constraints many are under as a result of the pandemic.
