“What’s Wrong With Planning For The Future?” PM Defends POS Revitalization Project

By Newsroom

“What is wrong for planning for life in the future? Isn’t that what we all do? Who plans for life after death?”

This was the question posed by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, in response to critics of government’s recently unveiled Port of Spain revitalization project.

Since it’s revelation on Monday, the project has been under scrutiny, particularly by Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who deemed the project “out of touch” given the present Covid-19 reality.

But Dr. Rowley pointed out that the massive project was conceptualized well before the pandemic was even a thought.

“Nobody said we’re gonna go out there and find $10 billion dollars and the Government will start to build this and build that. The work that we have been doing on the city of Port-of-Spain, the planning and execution, pre-dated COVID,” Dr. Rowley said.

He was speaking at the opening of the Diego Martin South Community Centre on Thursday.
