WINDIES beat Zimbabwe to keep ICC T20World Cup hopes alive

By Shirvan Williams

The WINDIES kept their ICC T20 hopes alive earlier today with a good all-around effort to beat Zimbabwe by 31 runs with 10 balls to spare. However, the West Indian men did face a batting collapse that saw them posting just 153 runs in their innings.

Batting first the men in maroon went from 90 for 2 to 101 for 6. Johnson Charles scored 45 off 35 balls and Rovman Powell (28) and Akeal Hosein (23 not out) helped to repair the damage of Sikandar Raza’s fine spell of 3 for 19.

Alzarri Joseph’s T20I career-best of 4 for 16 turned out to be the match-winner as he combined with Jason’s Holder 3 for 12 to run through Zimbabwe’s batting order. The WINDIES will next face Ireland in another must-win match on October 21 at 12 midnight.
